We are all vegans here. I decided to become vegan in 1995 after hearing reports on the radio about live animal transports through the port of Dover, and the ensuing protests from the local people. To be honest I had never considered up to that point what was involved in the production of cow milk. What an eye-opener.
My partner Rachel became vegan at the same time... that was a no-brainer, and we've stayed vegan ever since.
A lot has changed in terms of availability of vegan food - 'plant based food' as it is often known by nowadays. No need to make a trip to a small wholefood store now, as every supermarket offers a huge range of suitable fayre. A lot of the meat substitutes are manufactured by companies who also sell meat products, so depending on what sort of vegan you are, you may choose to avoid certain varieties or brands as the company ethos may not align with yours.
For me and my family, being vegan is more than just a diet. You can read more about this aspect of the veganhouse on the VEGANS page
For most of my life I've been interested in photography, video and graphic design. I've decided to include a weekly round-up of the photos shot during the week, if they're any good!
There will hopefully be some theme to the week, whether it's the environment, animals or on of the other activities I spend time on. I'm not a purist who thinks the picture should be as shot, so some post production work may be involved to enhance the subject. Everything I shoot now is digital, although I do have a library of b/w negatives from when I first started taking pix. Some of these will feature.
The weekly news section will be about what's going on in the vegan / environmental world. Don't worry there won't be any graphic images of cruelty to animals... I've seen too much already, but some of the items I write about will not be in mainstream news... I guess the main objective is for the reader to think about what they are reading and make their own decisions about how to live!
